At LUNDAGER, sustainable solutions and social responsibility are top priorities and as part of our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we continue to take further steps across our operations to reduce our environmental impact and strengthen social responsibility.
As a company, we are certified under MPS G.A.P., MPS ABC, MPS SQ, and Global G.A.P. GRASP, which set high standards for both environmental and social conditions throughout our production and supply chain. These certifications commit us to ensuring proper working conditions, workers’ rights, and continuous improvement, not only within our own nurseries, but also among our suppliers.
At Lundager, we prioritize the health and wellbeing of our employees. All staff are covered by a health insurance scheme, and we offer regular first aid courses to ensure everyone feels safe in their daily work. We have also introduced a fruit scheme to support a healthier workplace for our entire team.
We are working purposefully to transition our energy consumption toward more sustainable solutions. This includes installing LED grow lights and solar panels on the roofs of our office and warehouse buildings. We have also set up EV charging stations to support greener transportation for both employees and visitors.
Responsible production is central to our daily operations. We reuse rainwater to irrigate our plants through a recirculating watering system, which reduces our overall water consumption. We have also implemented a waste sorting scheme and are continuously working to reduce the peat content in our growing media, by using alternatives such as composted bark, coconut fiber, and wood fiber.
As part of our sustainability efforts, we have made an effort to reduce our peat consumption, and today we use 55% less than before.
Peat has long been an important growing material in the horticultural industry due to its ability to retain water and nutrients. However, peat is extracted from raised bogs, which are important natural habitats for both biodiversity and CO₂ storage, and harvesting it releases large amounts of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
